Let This Grieving Soul Retire! Season 2 – The Reluctant Hero Returns (Again?)

After an explosive first season that captivated anime fans with its oddball protagonist, high-stakes relic hunts, and chaotic character dynamics, Let This Grieving Soul Retire! Woe Is the Weakling Who Leads the Strongest Party is officially coming back this October 2025—and things are only getting more delightfully unhinged.

From Web Novel to Anime Powerhouse

What started as a humble web novel on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in 2018 by author Tsukikage has since grown into a full-blown franchise. With a light novel adaptation by Micro Magazine, a manga serialization via Kadokawa’s ComicWalker, and the 2024 anime adaptation by Studio Zero-G, the series has found a unique place among fantasy comedy anime—offering a refreshing inversion of the classic "OP main character" trope.

And now, Season 2 promises to push this absurd yet emotionally resonant journey even further.

The Reluctant Legend: Krai Andrey

At the heart of the series is Krai Andrey, a man who wants nothing more than to retire in peace—but fate (and his absurdly overpowered reputation) has other plans. Known for his “absolute defense,” godlike foresight, and the moniker Thousand Tricks, Krai is paradoxically considered one of the greatest treasure hunters in the world… despite being, according to the series creator himself, genuinely weak.

He’s survived impossible odds, cleared legendary dungeons like Lost Inn and Code Fortress, and even defeated Phantom Gods. Yet all Krai wants is a nap, some solitude, and freedom from the clingy girls (and men) in his life. Season 2 picks up after his "discretionary suspension"—a bureaucratic euphemism for his long-awaited vacation—only for him to be dragged back into the madness.

And this time, the stakes are global: the aftermath of Code Fortress, political tensions in Zebrudia, and emerging threats tied to the World Tree (Yggdra) will test even his unwilling genius.

New Focus: Lucia Rogier Steps Up

A significant shift coming in Season 2—and beyond—is the gradual shift of focus toward Lucia Rogier, Krai’s brilliant (and dangerously devoted) step-sister. A magical prodigy and the Avatar of Creation, Lucia is heavily inspired by the fantasy stories Krai wrote as a child—stories she took very seriously.

Voiced by Aoi Koga, Lucia’s character brings a unique blend of arcane firepower, emotional depth, and hilariously obsessive tendencies. According to Tsukikage, she’ll become the new protagonist in Volume 13, marking a major evolution in the narrative’s perspective.

The Grieving Souls: Chaos in Unity

Returning with Krai are the Grieving Souls—his wildly overpowered, emotionally volatile, and often completely unhinged companions:

  • Tino Shade (Miyu Kubota): The devout disciple who sees Krai as divine and prays to him thrice daily.

  • Liz Smart (Fairouz Ai): A terrifyingly strong "Thief" with a sadistic training regimen and a hopeless crush on Krai.

  • Sitri Smart (Konomi Kohara): The genius alchemist and romantic stalker-in-residence.

  • Luke Sykol (Kōhei Amasaki): A wooden-sword-wielding lunatic and frequent troublemaker.

  • Ansem Smart (Tomokazu Sugita): The only semi-sane member of the party, acting as its moral compass and top-tier healer.

Together, they form a party capable of conquering the impossible—but only barely held together by Krai's desperate attempts to stay out of the spotlight.

What to Expect in Season 2

  • More high-stakes relic missions with absurd twists

  • Political intrigue involving the Zebrudia Empire and the Explorers Association

  • An escalation of the World Tree (Yggdra) arc

  • Introduction of more major characters like Ark Rodin and Gark Welter

  • Even more romantic chaos, with Tino, Liz, Sitri, and Lucia all vying for Krai’s attention (which he absolutely doesn’t want)

  • The beginning of the protagonist handover from Krai to Lucia

Visually, expect Studio Zero-G to refine the series' mix of slick action animation and comedic exaggeration, staying true to the quirky energy that made the first season such a surprise hit.

Final Thoughts: A Satirical Masterpiece with a Heart

Let This Grieving Soul Retire! is more than just a comedy. It’s a clever deconstruction of hero tropes, a heartwarming tale about found family, and a satire of what happens when a genuinely unwilling man is branded a savior. Season 2 is set to deliver more insanity, more heartfelt moments, and the continuation of a story that only gets better the deeper it dives into its bizarre world.

So buckle up, because Krai Andrey’s journey (or attempted retirement) isn’t over just yet.

Season 2 premieres October 2025.

Are you ready for more Krai chaos? Or are you cheering for Lucia’s takeover?
