The final frontier is opening once again â this time, not for seasoned captains, but for a new generation of dreamers. đ During New York Comic Con 2025, Paramount+ officially unveiled the long-awaited trailer and premiere details for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, a fresh, emotionally charged entry in the ever-expanding Star Trek Universe.
The series officially launches January 15, 2026, with a two-episode premiere, followed by new episodes weekly through March 12.
đ A New Era of Starfleet Begins
Set in the 32nd century, long after the events of Star Trek: Discovery, the Federation is rebuilding â and hope once again shines through the stars. For the first time in over a century, a new class of cadets enters the legendary Starfleet Academy, where theyâll train to become the galaxyâs next great explorers.
The premise beautifully captures the timeless Star Trek spirit: a blend of optimism, discovery, and humanityâs enduring pursuit of knowledge. But itâs not all lectures and simulations. The cadets must also face their greatest test yet â when a mysterious new enemy threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.
As Captain Kirk once said, âRisk is our business.â For these young recruits, that motto is about to become reality.
đ§ Meet the Next Generation of Heroes
Under the watchful eye of Chancellor Nahla Ake (played by Academy Award-winner Holly Hunter), this diverse crew of cadets learns what it truly means to wear the Starfleet insignia.
The main cadet lineup includes:
Sandro Rosta as Caleb Mir, a disillusioned orphan seeking redemption.
Karim Diané as Jay-Den Kraag, a Klingon medical officer with a warriorâs heart.
Kerrice Brooks as Sam, the first-ever holographic cadet in Starfleet history.
George Hawkins as Darem Reymi, a privileged Khionian learning humility through command.
Bella Shepard as Genesis Lythe, the daughter of an admiral determined to prove herself.
Zoë Steiner as Tarima Sadal, a Betazoid with secrets of her own.
The cast also features Tig Notaro reprising her fan-favorite role as Jett Reno, Robert Picardo as the legendary Doctor, and guest appearances from Mary Wiseman, Oded Fehr, and Paul Giamatti, who joins as the mysterious and morally complex Nus Braka.
And in a fun twist, Stephen Colbert lends his voice as the Digital Dean of Students, delivering daily announcements with classic Colbert charm. đ

Expect an emotional mix of adventure, humor, and coming-of-age drama as these cadets navigate friendships, heartbreak, and interstellar challenges. Each episode explores what it truly means to be part of Starfleet â not just in uniform, but in spirit.
Under the mentorship of Ake and her instructors, the cadets learn that leadership isnât about power â itâs about empathy, sacrifice, and courage.
As Spock once reminded us, âThe needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.â That lesson will be tested again, in ways no cadet could imagine.
đ The Legacy Continues
Produced by Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau, Starfleet Academy marks the 12th series in the Star Trek franchise. Written by Gaia Violo and directed by Kurtzman, the show is produced by CBS Studios in collaboration with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment â ensuring that the legacy of Gene Roddenberryâs vision remains intact.
Filmed at Pinewood Toronto Studios, the series brings cinematic scale and emotional storytelling together, blending cutting-edge visuals with the heart and hope that define Star Trek.
