🐇The Death of Bunny Munro (2025) – Matt Smith Stars in Sky’s Dark & Tender Adaptation of Nick Cave’s Acclaimed Novel: Cast, Plot, Release Date & Where to Watch

“Every salesman has a pitch. Bunny Munro’s is chaos.”

Matt Smith steps into one of his boldest roles yet in The Death of Bunny Munro, a six-part Sky Original limited series adapted from Nick Cave’s cult 2009 novel. Launching 20 November 2025 on Sky and NOW, the series blends dark comedy, tragedy, and a surreal father-son odyssey through grief, sex, and self-destruction.

🕯️ A Fallen Lothario

Bunny Munro (Matt Smith) is a door-to-door beauty product salesman, a self-proclaimed ladies’ man, and a man drowning in his vices. When his wife Libby (Sarah Greene) dies by suicide, Bunny is left to care for his young son, Bunny Junior (Rafael Mathé), despite having no real grasp of fatherhood.

Desperate to keep moving, Bunny drags his son along on a chaotic sales trip across Brighton and the Sussex coast. But while Bunny chases fleeting encounters and empty pleasures, Junior slips into conversations with the ghost of his mother, slowly realizing the truth: his father isn’t a hero. He’s broken.

“You’re not saving me, Dad. You’re losing me.”

🎭 Cast & Characters

The series is anchored by a powerhouse cast:

  • Matt Smith as Bunny Munro – a man spiraling through grief, lust, and delusion.

  • Rafael MathÊ as Bunny Junior – the son, wise beyond his years, who watches his father crumble.

  • Sarah Greene as Libby – the ghostly presence of Bunny’s late wife.

  • Johann Myers as Poodle

  • Robert Glenister as Geoffrey

  • Alice Feetham as Yvonne

  • David Threlfall as Bunny Munro Sr.

  • Lindsay Duncan as Doris Pennington

🎬 Creative Powerhouse Behind the Scenes

  • Writer: BAFTA-winner Pete Jackson (Somewhere Boy)

  • Director: BAFTA-nominated Isabella EklĂśf (Industry, Holiday)

  • Executive Producers: Matt Smith & Nick Cave

  • Score: Nick Cave & Warren Ellis, reuniting for a haunting, atmospheric soundtrack

  • Produced by: Clerkenwell Films (Baby Reindeer, The End of the F**ing World*) with Sky Studios

The involvement of Nick Cave, both as executive producer and composer, ensures the series retains the novel’s brutal honesty and lyrical strangeness.

🌊 A Road Trip Through Grief and Madness

The story is part cautionary tale, part grotesque satire, and part tender exploration of fatherhood. As Bunny spirals, his sales pitches become sermons of desperation, and his charm curdles into menace. Meanwhile, Bunny Junior bears witness—not just to his father’s collapse, but to the question at the story’s core:

Is masculinity inherited? Or can it be rewritten?

“A son doesn’t just learn from his father’s successes. He inherits his failures too.”

📺 Release Date & Streaming

✨ Final Take

With Matt Smith delivering what may be one of the most daring performances of his career, The Death of Bunny Munro promises to be a raw, unsettling, yet oddly tender exploration of fatherhood, addiction, and the fragile line between love and ruin.

Equal parts dark road trip, ghost story, and family tragedy, it’s not just the death of Bunny Munro we’ll witness—it’s the reckoning of a man who must choose between destroying himself or saving his son.

The Death of Bunny Munro premieres 20 November, only on Sky and NOW.
