💨 “Justice isn’t just about winning or losing… It’s about protecting.”

A storm of fists and friendship is about to shake Japanese cinema this winter with WIND BREAKER, the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Satoru Nii’s hit manga. Directed by Kentaro Hagiwara (Blue Period) and written by Yosuke Masaike (Temporary Anime!), this feature film redefines the delinquent genre — turning rebellion into redemption, and loneliness into loyalty.

🌆 The Story: From Lone Wolf to Guardian of the City

Sakura Haruka (played by Japan Academy Award-winning actor Kouji Minakami) is a high school student with nothing to his name except his fighting skill — a boy whose fists speak louder than his heart. He arrives at the notorious Furin High School, known across the city as a breeding ground for delinquents, determined to claim the top spot.

But what he finds surprises him. The students of Furin have changed. They’ve become Windbreakers (Boufurin) — guardians who protect their town instead of terrorizing it.

Sakura, initially confused and unwilling to join their cause, soon finds himself swept into the brotherhood. Alongside his newfound allies — Nirei Akihiko, Suo Fang Junhi, and Sugishita Kyotaro (played by JUNON of BE: FIRST) — he learns that true strength isn’t just in throwing punches… It’s in standing up for something worth protecting.

When a ruthless rival gang, Shishito Ren, crosses an unforgivable line and targets the Windbreakers, Sakura must finally choose: fight for himself, or fight for everyone. His declaration echoes across the streets —

“Don’t mess with this city!”

⚔️ Action That Blows You Away

Shot on massive open sets in Okinawa, WIND BREAKER boasts breathtaking high-speed fight choreography that incorporates literal gusts of wind — with scenes filmed at speeds over 25 km/s to enhance the feeling of force and motion.

Each blow, each clash, feels like a dance between chaos and courage. The action isn’t just physical; it’s emotional — reflecting Sakura’s inner storm as he learns to fight not out of rage, but out of purpose.

🎵 A Song That Defines Strength: “Stay Strong” by BE: FIRST

The seven-member dance and vocal group BE: FIRST performs the film’s powerful theme song, “Stay Strong,” co-produced by SKY-HI and Yaffle (known for work with Fujii Kaze and Kenshi Yonezu).

With deep bass beats and rap-infused rhythm, the song captures the essence of the film’s spirit — friendship, struggle, and justice. Lyrics like “Strength lies beyond that, don’t lose sight of what you have to protect” reflect Sakura’s emotional journey.

JUNON, who also stars as Kyotaro Sugishita, contributed to the lyrics himself, saying:

“I poured my feelings for Sakura into this song. I hope it adds color to the story.”

🎨 Satoru Nii (Original Author):

“The cast’s energy during filming was incredible. The characters of Sakura and Umemiya were brought to life in ways I never imagined. I’m thrilled for fans to experience it on the big screen.”

🎬 Kentaro Hagiwara (Director):

“This film challenges the outdated image of the ‘yankee movie.’ It’s about breaking away from stereotypes — finding hope in the midst of chaos.”

🖋️ Yosuke Masaike (Screenwriter):

“Every scene was written as a highlight. It’s a story of overwhelming passion and loyalty — a love letter to those who fight for what they believe in.”

🌪️ A Wind of Change

At its heart, WIND BREAKER isn’t just a movie about delinquents or fights. It’s a reflection of youth itself — wild, wounded, and searching for meaning. Sakura’s journey from isolation to belonging mirrors the same struggles that define every generation.

As the theme song says, “Don’t bend yourself, don’t look away.”

This December, the wind rises — and so does the will to protect what matters.
